Catch Returns.

Catch Returns for Trout, Perch, Eels and Pike.

As of 01/03/2009 we will be asking all anglers to submit a catch return for Trout, Eels, Perch and Pike. To make the exercise as painless as possible we have incorporated a number of methods by which a return may be submitted.

(a) By posting your return in the Pike tagging return box situated at the boathouse.

(b) By e mail to stmarysloch@gmail.com

(c) Through our website http://stmarysloch.googlepages.com/

(d) By passing the information to Harry or Isabel at Henderland Cottage East, phone 01750 422430

(e) By text or phone to 07980 350031.

Methods (a) (b) (c) are the preferred methods of submitting returns. Methods (d) and (e) may be employed if other methods cannot be used (Club officials are also be entitled to their own free time).

In all cases the return should include the date of capture, numbers caught, weights or estimated weights of your catch and any further information you deem necessary.

We realise that some members may see this as an unnecessary burden, but as you can see above we have included methods of submitting a catch return from the comfort of your own home and you can do this in a couple of minutes, so there should be no excuse for non compliance!

The reasons behind us asking for catch returns are-

(a) We require Trout returns so that a comparison may be made over the coming years to quantify the increase or reduction in numbers of Trout caught vs. anglers fishing, in light of the policy originating from Scottish National Heritage forbidding the restocking of farmed Trout.

(b) We require Trout, Pike, Perch and Eel returns for our internet based marketing campaign (obviously we require tag details if the Pike is tagged) and to assist us in a wider demographic survey of the lochs.

(c) If anglers submit returns we then have a benchmark for the lochs which would be of immense benefit if say a pollution incident occurred, we then could quantify the loss to the club from post incident returns and seek appropriate additional compensation. We will also compile a dossier on monthly trends for the various species.

It is imperative that the club keeps up to date with developments in all aspects of angling in order to protect and improve our fishings, and as in all aspects of life knowledge is power.

We look forward to your cooperation in this matter.

Note
If you can please submit returns before the above date, due to the logistics and preparation involved in effectively informing the complete membership, we felt it would be unreasonable to ask for compliance until after the club AGM by which time all members will have been contacted individually.

Isabel and Harry have been asking visitors to the lochs to submit returns since the beginning of September and we have had a 100% response to date.

Congratulations are due to one of our members Les H who was fishing in Gala Angling Clubs competition last Sunday at the Hasse in Jedburgh. He ably demonstrated his prowess with a fly rod by capturing 3 Rainbow Trout for a weight of 5lbs 3oz enough for him to lift the trophy.

Well done Les!
