Diplomatic duties and more....

Photo - Piotr presents Tasha of the village hall committee with the cheque from the club
It’s that time of the year again when actual angling takes a back seat for a week and one has to get involved in the wider social sphere of angling and tie up the many loose ends. As an angling club in the middle of a small community where none of the members are local we feel it imperative to involve ourselves to some extent with that community and that was the purpose of today.
We now make an annual donation to the village hall committee of £50.00 to be used as they see fit for the benefit of the community, it’s not a lot of money but as that modifier of the high street Tesco say “every little helps”!
I was very pleased to meet the chair of the village hall committee Doreen, and asides of exchanging pleasantries we covered some useful ground, new committee member Tash Hudson was also present and added greatly to the blether’s!
Time then for some eats and it was off to the speakeasy (Glen Cafe) for an all day breakfast! This feast took some overpowering but we all three eventually triumphed fully fed and contented! Cath /Lisa once again you have done us proud, a good old fashioned spread, it might not be politically correct or nutritionally trendy but by hell it’s good and after all, we only pass this way once! So if you are in the area go and treat yourself you won’t be disappointed!
Off then up to Peters to give his bees a feed and as is the custom with bees the first stinging of the year beckons, I only got nipped three times which is a fairly good introduction and well worth it knowing the bees are fully fed for another couple of weeks. Pity they don’t like full English breakfasts or I could have taken them to the cafe, I’m sure that would have done them to April! Not sure if Cath and Lisa would approve of a beehive in the cafe though!
Anyway I’ve always suspected Peter of being a fairly competent athlete and master in his castle. Today however would reveal his true potential! One hundred metres in under ten seconds? I believe this was achieved today with the aid of one small very angry female bee, you should have seen him move, it was just a blur! Makes you wonder what Sally Gunnell could have achieved if chased by an angry swarm of bees! Oh and master in his castle? Not on today’s evidence, this little female bee clearly showing who is boss!

Photo - Ruthless defenders, The Bowerhope Bees making use of the sun!
Over next to Bowerhope to check the hive there, they were in rude health, expertly defending their home from intruders (see photo) got another four stings to prove it, phew they really were wild! I suppose the moral is wear protective clothing and don’t get stung, I didn’t and I did!
Back on the loch to see how our anglers are getting on, Stevie Nimmo and Kris Olson two of our members were fishing at the bottom of the loch, Kris already with a ten pounder caught earlier in the day to his name and Stevie, well catching up on some much needed sleep! Kris the regularity with which you are catching is worrying; people have been banished for less! Try and put in a few blanks mate! Ps I could teach you to blank no problem!
Next a couple of lads from the PAAS at the graveyard who had scored three runs but no fish, however being real anglers this was no problem, all part of angling life’s rich tapestry! We had a good speak and not unsurprisingly the Muppet Dangerman came up in conversation. They were scathing of his crass stupidity and his finely honed skill in executing defenceless Pike as all decent anglers are, and it turns out he is now a hot topic on the PAAS forum(god help him)! His celebrity status (as a buffoon) continues to grow, even more people are desperate to meet him! It seems like some people are just destined to be Muppets!
Further on two lads from Glasgow regular visitors to the lochs fishing the village hall until Monday. Whilst speaking to them one caught a five pounder and with the minimum of fuss expertly unhooked the fish with the minimum of handling and released it to fight another day.
There was no question of torturing this fish by asphyxiation or simply executing it in Dangerman fashion! They as proper and decent anglers mindful of the future treated the fish with the greatest of respect!A pleasure meeting up with you again lads our fish are safe with your types, come back anytime you are most welcome!
Special thanks must go to Scott and Andy two of our members who travelled all the way from Glasgow to deliver a very heavy piece of kit for the club. Scott and Andy we are in your debt and cannot thank you enough for your kindness!

Annual Wild Trout Competition
We are in the end stages of finalising the details for the above competition. It looks like the date will be either Sunday the 17th or the following Sunday the 24th of April. We have managed to secure the same fantastic prizes as last year and we will confirm all other details this week. One big change this year will be that entrants may fish on a catch and release basis if they do not want to take fish. Tune in next week for full details.

The top of the Lowes
Please see the photo which shows a sign forbidding vehicular access. This does not apply to our anglers, you may use this access road if you intend fishing the top end of the loch or are using our boat! However please park your vehicle on the grassy banks before the cattle grid and sleeper bridge and do keep to the signposted path avoiding farmland stock.
A great weekend meeting lots of decent people what a pleasant change from having to engage with the mind numbing Dangerman types!

Photo – Dangerman (Kevin Austin) proud to be a mutilator of Pike!
Click the above link to find out how NOT to handle Pike; the perpetrator of the shocking handling in the video has been barred from fishing at our lochs! Have a look at the video and the dopey comments below, he has removed 23 comments from the video all 100% negative (mail us if you would like to view them).
Please download his photo and pass it on to your venue and ask them to visit our news pages to read about a disgrace to angling and a Pike mutilator.
Would you really want this fool with his appalling handling skills fishing at your loch
